The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If there weren’t refrigerants, there wouldn’t be air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be legal to produce because of its damage to the environment. Introducing R-410A To decrease environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now designed to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and is free of chlorine, making it ozone-friendly. You can feel good about using this refrigerant in Thousand Oaks because it’ll help make your AC work efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was manufactured anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally out of production. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to operate your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Air Max HVAC Inc work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. You should also steer clear of”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
